You might’ve seen a MyPillow ad on TV, but if you haven’t, we’d bet you’ve at least scrolled passed the CEO Mike Lindell’s infomercial on your guide once, or twice. So far, television marketing has proven to be hugely successful for their company, since My Pillow has almost become a household name at this point. The proof is in the pudding; since they started business in 2004, they’ve sold over 41 million pillows.
On their website, MyPillow claims to have the “world’s most comfortable pillow,” and the team members at loansonline.store are here to see how well that claim holds up. Is it just your basic pillow, or is it truly all it’s cracked up to be?
Before we get into the nuts and bolts of this post, we want to briefly gloss over their company policies. First things first, you can expect your MyPillow to come with a 60-day money back guarantee if you purchase via MyPillow.com or 30 days if you go through Amazon. That means you have the opportunity to test out your mattress for two months, before you have to make a decision on whether or not you want to keep it. If you decide you don’t like it at the end of the trial period, MyPillow will give you a full refund.
You’ll also get warranty coverage for 10 years, so you know the company really stands by their products.
Here’s our video review of the famous My Pillow:
We tested out MyPillow in the Medium fill level (white), and Firm level (green). We’ll get into a more in-depth explanation on the significance of their fill levels soon, but first we want to go over the construction of Supima.
There isn’t a ton of information about the pillow’s construction on their website, but this is what we do know. It’s wrapped in 100% cotton, and they’re manufactured here in the United States. Packed inside is the company’s unique patented interlocking fill, which is made from shredded polyurethane foam (a fancy industry word for neutral foam).
To give you a visual of the material on the inside, imagine putting a slab of neutral foam through the pulse setting on your blender. The end result is going to be chopped up, mangled pieces of soft foam.
Again, there isn’t a lot of information on the company’s website about weight, or additional specs, but here’s what we could gather.
Queen size – 18.5” x 30”
King size – 18.5” x 34”
You’ll pick your ideal model based on your T-shirt size, and they provide a helpful chart on their website and Amazon to help you pick the most appropriate firmness level. For example, if you’re a woman who usually wears a medium T-shirt, the fill level you should probably look into is a medium. Please note that if you’re buying a MyPillow for a child younger than eight years old, their size will always be medium.
We think the overall feel to the Supima models we tested is just airy, soft foam. When you first pick up a Supima MyPillow in your hands, it feels fluffy and light, so it’s also quick to respond to pressure. One thing you might notice about the Supima MyPillow is that it’s a little lumpy. It might throw you off at first, but the texture is easy to get passed when you’re laying down and you quickly get used to it.
MyPillow has options for all sleeper types (back, stomach, side, combo) and body types, which is something we really like about MyPillow. This could also be a reason why it’s so popular, because many different types of people can find a model that’ll work for them.
You can purchase a Supima pillow in either Medium fill, or Firm fill. The medium model is white, and the firm model comes with a thin green strand of material woven around the circumference. This is so you can tell which MyPillow model is which. The amount of fill you have in your pillow will determine how firm it is; the more filling it has, the firmer your pillow will be.
All in all, regardless of the firmness level you choose, they’re fairly comfortable pillows. They also don’t go flat once you lay your head down, which is something we do like about them. With that being said, we thought our MyPillows were slightly underwhelming and unremarkable. Are they comfortable? Yes, we think so. After considering their prices, are they among our favorites? No.
You can get a decent pillow starting around $15-$20, or you can splurge a little and get a more luxury pillow around the $50 mark or over. If you’re shopping for a more expensive option, you’ll probably have higher expectations for the pillow’s functionality and quality. A pricey pillow might have advanced cooling technology like the Helix Sleep Cooling Pillow, or it might have a unique construction with a material unique to the brand, like the Purple Pillow. With that being said, we aren’t sure how to justify the price of MyPillow’s Supima model.
MyPillow’s Supima model has a retail price that’s just shy of $60 for a queen size, but MyPillow does offer discounts. They’re currently running a promotion that drops the price by about $20, but as you probably know, discounts don’t stick around forever. You might want to visit Amazon to check current prices.
We aren’t obligated to make positive comments on the products we review, so we’re going to be honest when we say we think MyPillow’s prices are a little steep for what you’re getting. Sure, they’re a huge company with a good reputation, but we don’t think that’s enough to warrant high prices. There’s nothing particularly extraordinary about the construction or feel of MyPillow’s Supima model. In-N-Out, for example, is also a popular company with high standards. That doesn’t mean you’ll catch us paying $15 for one of their burgers (but that’s just us).
If you’re somebody who isn’t price conscious and loves purchasing from big brand names, we think you might like MyPillow. Just because we don’t see the $40-$60+ value in MyPillow doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t. Especially if you’re somebody just looking for a universally comfortable and accommodating pillow, without all the added features or fancy materials some other brands are using. So if you’re willing to pay extra for the name, who are we to stop you.
We also think you’ll like MyPillow if you’re a sucker for a good insurance policy. If you were to go to Bed Bath and Beyond and purchase a pillow, odds are, the brand you purchased from probably won’t be as generous with their company policies than MyPillow is.
We don’t think you’ll love MyPillow if you’re looking for the biggest bang for your buck, or if you’re interested in something more traditional like a feather/down pillow. We think you can get a more luxury pillow for the same price Mypillow, like Brooklyn Bedding’s latex foam pillow, which retails around $40-$60.
If you’re somebody who prefers feather stuffed pillows or have never slept on a soft foam pillow before, you should probably consider looking into something similar to what you already have rather than MyPillow. MyPillow is soft, but not “feathers from a fluffy goose” soft, so there’s a chance you won’t be their biggest fan.
The first time you open your MyPillow, throw it in the dryer with a damp cloth for about 15 minutes on high heat. This gives the pillow’s interlocking material a chance to activate. After that, you’re free to throw your MyPillow in the washer and dryer as often as you wash anything else in your laundry basket. They recommend you at least wash it every four months, and every two months for those of you with allergies.
You can wash it in cold or warm water, just make sure you use the regular cycle instead of delicate. You can also use any detergent, but you’ll have to pass on the fabric softener when it comes to washing MyPillow. If you have a top loading washing machine, balance the wash with another pillow or towel, along with your MyPillow, but if you own a front loading machine, you’ll want to wash your MyPillow with a full load of laundry.
We’ve tested many pillows here at The loansonline.store, and we probably wouldn’t rank MyPillow up there with our favorites. We won’t argue with the fact that it’s comfortable and accommodating, but it might be a stretch to call it the “most comfortable pillow in the world.” Their prices are also something we can’t seem to get passed, since we think you can get a nicer pillow for around the same price. There’s just nothing that gives MyPillow an edge, and it definitely didn’t make us think “wow” when we laid down on it.
However, if you don’t scoff at their price and you’ve heard good things from your neighbor, your parents, your siblings, and your best friends—go ahead and give it a try. Remember you have 60 nights to try out your pillow, so if you don’t end up liking it, you can always get your money back.
If MyPillow isn’t doing it for you, you can always take a look at our other pillow reviews we’ve done to see if you can find one you like the sound of better.
