If you’re looking for a particular section of this review, feel free to click the appropriate jump-to link above. We’ve made sure to include an individual review of all three Allswell mattresses in post.

Overview Of All The Mattress Models

For those of you who aren’t aware, Allswell Home is actually owned by the retail giant Walmart. In addition to the Allswell website, you can also purchase Allswell mattresses on Walmart’s website.

As of now, the company offers three mattresses in a “good-better-best” model. Here’s a quick synopsis and overview of the beds.

  • The Allswell — This is an entry level mattress for under $500, and yet it still has coils.
  • The Luxe — This is the company’s mid-tier model that’s 12″ thick and has upgraded foams.
  • The Supreme — This is a 14″ thick mattress with support coils and a pillow top.

allswell mattress review luxe supreme hybrid comparison chart

It is worth mentioning that in the past the company offered two different beds, however, those beds are no longer available. And we consider that a positive—we much prefer Allswell’s new mattress lineup, and are actually partial toward the base model since we think it’s such a tremendous value for the money.

Allswell Home Company Policies

Like Casper, Leesa, GhostBed and other popular bed-in-a-box companies, Allswell Home offers very friendly customer policies. The Allswell Hybrid mattress ships for free and arrives at your door compressed and rolled-up in a box. Once the box arrives, just move it to your desired room and unroll the bed onto your frame.

Once you get the mattress all setup, it’s recommended you let it fully inflate for about 24-48 hours before sleeping on it.

If you don’t want to setup the mattress yourself, Allswell does offer white glove delivery for a fee. This means an actual person (or two) will deliver the mattress and set it up for you. You don’t even need to lift a finger. For an additional fee, the delivery crew will haul away your old mattress as well.

Speaking of the aforementioned trial period, once the mattress arrives, Allswell Home offers consumers a 100 night risk-free testing period. Essentially, the company allows you test the bed in the comfort of your own home for more than three months to decide whether you truly like it or not.

If, after three weeks on the bed, you decide the mattress isn’t right for you, no problem, you can get your money back. All you have to do is contact Allswell customer support and they’ll schedule for the bed to be picked-up and donated to a charity. Once the mattress has been removed, the company will issue you a refund in full.

Lastly, Allswell Home backs their mattresses with a 10 year warranty. You can read more about what the warranty entails on the company’s website. Also, just so you know, the policies we just covered (free shipping and returns, 100 night trial period and extended warranty) are pretty standard for the mattress-in-a-box industry.

Allswell Mattress Review – Base Model

In today’s day and age, we realize a lot of folks would rather watch than read when learning about new products. If that’s you, here’s a quick review video about Allswell’s budget mattress, simply called “The Allswell Mattress.”

There is only so much detail we could cram into one video though. Keep reading to learn more about this budget-friendly mattress.

Pricing For The Base Model

The Allswell Hybrid mattress is priced very affordably. It’s quite a bit cheaper than the average bed-in-a-box. Given the bed’s high-quality construction and the fact that it’s manufactured by a well-respected bedding company, we think this mattress in an excellent value. Here’s how pricing breaks down by size. It’s worth noting that the bed is not offered in Twin XL or California King sizes.

SizePrice (MSRP)
Twin$245
Full$315
Queen$345
King$420

We have some more good news for you. Allswell Home regularly offers coupon codes and promo codes to make their mattresses even more affordable. They don’t do it all the time but around major holidays we’ve seen them offer $50-$100 off. Check the green discount box on the right hand side of the screen to see if the company is currently offering a discount.

What Is The Allswell Mattress Made Of?

As the name implies, this is a hybrid mattress that is comprised of both layers of foam and coils. In total, the bed comes in a 10″ thick.

For the very base, the bed uses a thin layer of dense poly foam. This layer doesn’t do much from a practical standpoint other than provide a foundation for the coils above to sit on. On that note, the next layer is comprised of 6″ individually wrapped coils. Together these coils serve as the primary support framework for the bed.

Sitting on top of the coils is a 2″ layer of soft poly foam. This layer is there to serve as a transition from the coils below. Finally, for the top, the bed uses a quilted cover that includes 3/4″ of gel memory foam. Overall, the quilted cover gives the bed a premium look and feel.

Caring For The Cover

As we alluded to above, the bed has a quilted cover, which means it’s non-removable. As such, if you happen to spill something or the cover gets dirty somehow, you won’t be able to just unzip it and throw it in the wash. Instead, you’ll have to spot clean the cover with a mild detergent and some water.

In all honesty, that’s how you clean most bed-in-a-box covers (even the ones that are removable) so really it’s not a big deal at the end of the day.

A closer look at the quilted cover

If you’re concerned about your mattress getting dirty, you may want to look into purchasing the Allswell Mattress Cover to protect against stains. Alternatively, you can always shop among the hundreds of mattress protectors on Amazon.

Your Body Type And Weight

Before we get into the the next section, it’s important to understand how your body type, BMI and weight affect how you perceive a mattress to feel. The same mattress can feel quite different to various sized sleepers.

For example, large individuals generally think most mattresses land on the softer side of the spectrum. These types of sleepers exert more force onto a bed’s surface compared to smaller sized sleepers and as a result tend to sink further into the top comfort layers.

Petite individuals, on the other hand, tend to sleep more on top of the bed’s surface (rather than in it) since they place less pressure on the mattress. Correspondingly, these types of sleepers tend to think most mattresses land on the firmer side of the spectrum.

In our reviews, we typically write through the perspective of an average sized sleeper. However, we’ll also make sure to address other body types later in this post. Spoiler alert: we think the Allswell Hybrid mattress is viable for people of all shapes and sizes.

Firmness Ratings For Allswell

Although the mattress incorporates a layer of memory foam quilted into the cover, we wouldn’t say the mattress has an overwhelming memory foam feel. You do get a slight hint of memory foam but overall, we think the mattress has more of a soft, neutral-foam feel.

What we mean by the term “neutral” is that the top layers are soft and comfortable (like memory foam) but they don’t really conform or contour to your body’s shape like you would get with the top layers on a true memory foam bed. All in all, we think the bed feels most similar to the firm version of the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Mattress.

allswell hybrid mattress review firmness

In terms of responsiveness, the top layers don’t immediately snap back to position after pressure is released off the bed but we wouldn’t categorize them as slow either. At the end of the day, you don’t get any sort of stuck-in-the-mud sensation with this bed. We found it very easy to switch between sleeping positions.

This is good news for active sleepers who move around a lot. Sometimes with beds that contain memory foam, these types of sleepers will feel like they’re kind of stuck-in-the-bed, which can make it more difficult to switch from their back to their stomach or vice versa. Luckily, that’s not the case with the Allswell Hybrid Mattress.

Moving on, we think the mattress comes in around a medium to medium-firm on our soft-to-firm scale. The bed is firmer than the average bed-in-a-box but we still think it offers a pretty nice balance between comfort and support.

Keep your weight in mind when thinking about firmness. Like we mentioned earlier, this topic is quite subjective. For example, a larger person (call it 250+ pounds) will likely feel the Allswell Hybrid mattress lands closer to a medium designation, while a smaller person will likely find it lands closer to a medium-firm rating.

Is The Allswell Hybrid Bed Good For Side Sleepers?

Although the mattress lands on the firmer side of the spectrum, we do think the Allswell Hybrid is a somewhat viable option for primary side sleepers, though not if you’re looking for a truly soft mattress.

Typically, people who spend a lot of time on their side prefer softer mattresses that sort of cradle their pressure points. The Allswell Hybrid mattress won’t cradle your hips and shoulders like Purple beds, for example, but the top layers are still soft and accommodating nonetheless. Our testing team didn’t experience any discomfort or pain while laying on their side.

Not the best option ever but will definitely work for side sleepers

All things considered, we wouldn’t include this mattress on our list of the Best Mattresses For Side Sleepers, but it’s comfortable enough for side sleepers to get by with, especially if they’re a bit heavier in terms of weight.

What About Back And Stomach Sleepers?

Yes, we think the Allswell Hybrid mattress is ideal for back and stomach sleepers. Unlike side sleepers, back and stomach sleepers generally prefer firmer mattresses that provide a good amount of support. In our experience, the Allswell Hybrid mattress does just that. Our testing team felt they received the necessary support under their lower back/trunk and that their hips stayed in proper alignment with the rest of their body.

Good amount of support for back and stomach sleepers

If you’re a primary stomach or back sleeper the Allswell mattress should be a nice choice for you. It’s not the firmest mattress out there, but we see it as offering plenty of support and being in the sweet spot for many back/stomach sleepers.

Overall, we think the Allswell Hybrid mattress is a good choice for combo sleepers who rotate between positions. The bed provides just enough pressure relief to be accommodating for side sleepers and a good amount of support for back and stomach sleepers.

allswell mattress review sleeping positions

Plus, as we mentioned above, you won’t ever feel like you’re stuck in the bed, which allows combination sleepers to rotate between positions easily.

Petite Sleepers

The Allswell Hybrid mattress will work just fine for folks who weigh less than 150 pounds. Everything we said above holds true for these body types. However, keep in mind, the mattress will feel even firmer for lighter sleepers. Given this, lighter sleepers who spend a lot of time on their side may find the bed too firm.

Heavy Sleepers

The Allswell Hybrid mattress is one of the few bed-in-a-box mattresses under $500 that will work for people who weigh more than 250 pounds. We say that for two primary reasons. First, the bed is on the firmer side of the spectrum.

This means sleepers (even heavy ones) will lay more on top of the bed’s surface as opposed to sinking far down into the top layers. Sometimes with extra plush beds, heavy people will find that their hips sink too far down into the mattress and fall out of proper alignment with the rest of their body.

One of the best cheap mattresses for heavier folks

More importantly, the bed uses coils for its primary support structure. This is important because coils provide more support and last longer than dense poly foams that all-foam beds use for their foundations. Between the coils and the firmness of the bed, we think large individuals will be just fine on this mattress.

Will The Allswell Hybrid Mattress Sleep Hot?

No, we don’t think you’ll heat up on this bed. In our experience, you sleep more temperature neutral. In other words, the bed won’t be the primary reason why you warm up or cool-off throughout the night. We feel this way for two reasons.

First, not to beat a dead horse, but the bed lands closer to a firm rating than a soft rating. Again, you’ll sleep more on top of the bed rather than in it. This should help you from feeling like the top layers are wrapping or hugging your body (the less friction, the cooler you’ll sleep). Further, the bed contains only a thin layer of memory foam (generally known for retaining heat) and the coils in the bed allow for a decent amount of airflow.

It’s important to note that temperature regulation is a finicky subject. You could have the coolest sleeping bed on the planet but if you crank up your heater to the highest setting, chances are you won’t sleep very cool.

In other words, external factors play a role when it comes to how warm or cool you sleep. For example, where you live (Florida vs Alaska), your thermostat settings and what kind of sheets/comforter you use can all affect your sleeping temperature.

Considerations For Couples

Lastly, we think the Allswell Hybrid mattress will work just fine for couples who sleep together (get your mind out of the gutter). The bed performs well in terms of limiting motion transfer and edge support. These are two important factors for couples to consider when shopping for a new mattress.

First, despite the coils which give the bed a little bounce, the top layers actually deaden movement pretty well. In our tests, we noticed little motion that was transferred from one side of the bed to the other.

As you see above, the water in the glass stays fairly stable. This is good for couples in which one partner has a case of the jimmy legs (i.e. kicks or moves around a lot). The better a bed is at isolating motion, the better night of sleep each partner will get. In simple terms, you won’t wake up every time your partner switches positions or gets up to fetch a glass of water.

Next, the bed provides pretty decent edge support. It’s not the best edge support we’ve ever seen or tested but it’s good enough to get the job done.

Pretty good edge support

This is an especially important subject for partners who share a smaller sized mattress like a full or queen. Good edge support means there is more useful space for both people to spread out without feeling like they’ll slip off the edge. Contrary to popular belief, not all couples like to cuddle throughout the night.

Allswell Mattress Reviews Verdict

All in all, we are big fans of this mattress. It’s a comfortable mattress that accommodates all body/sleeper types and performs well in almost every category. Add in the fact that it’s extremely affordable and you’re looking at one of the best value beds on the market. Don’t be surprised if it lands on a number of our Best Mattress lists.

How Allswell Compares To Other Brands

As an addendum to the review, I want to discuss how the Allswell Hybrid compares to a few other mattresses you can buy online. These won’t be full comparisons, but they’ll give you a decent idea of how Allswell stacks up.

Casper — While Allswell mixes coils and foam, Casper is an all-foam bed with a neutral overall feel. Allswell is a bit firmer than Casper and has more of a memory foam feel. Laying on Casper is a bit like laying on a huge piece of softer foam. Between the two, we’d probably give the edge to Casper for petite side sleepers. That said, for heavier individuals, we’d prefer Allswell, so it really just comes down to what you want in a bed. Further, there’s almost no comparison on price. Allswell is far more affordable than Casper. That’s not to say that Casper isn’t a good value—it’s just that Allswell has Walmart pricing.

Purple — We’re looking at two completely dissimilar beds now. Purple uses a proprietary top layer dubbed Hyper-Elastic Polymer, which isn’t a foam, but has some of the advantages of foam. As of early 2019, there are four Purple mattresses (original, 2, 3, and 4). All of them use this special top layer. Laying on a Purple mattress is like laying on an eight-foot-long Dr. Scholl’s insole. It’s responsive, soft yet firm, and really unique. Therefore, if you want something new, try Purple, but if you want something more traditional, look into Allswell.

Layla — Allswell has a hint of memory foam, while Layla has a fluffy, soft memory foam feel. Layla also does not have coils, so it’s best for medium and petite folks, whereas Allswell can handle big and small dudes alike. One interesting feature that Layla has that Allswell does not is a double-sided/flippable design with a soft side and a firm side. This allows consumers two options to get things right with the same mattress. We like the concept, but it’s not totally necessary if you know what you’re getting with a new mattress.

GhostBed Luxe — Between the two, GhostBed Luxe has more of a true memory foam feel, though, we didn’t get an overwhelming “stuck” feeling with the bed. Further, GhostBed Luxe has a special cover that actively cools you down throughout the night. In other words, this is a proper cooling mattress, while Allswell is basically temperature-neutral. Both are on the firmer end and are quite supportive, so it really comes down to a preference for price and some of the other features of the beds.

Allswell Luxe Hybrid Review

The Luxe model is the next step up in the Allswell lineup. Here is our review of the bed.

Price & Coupon Code — The Luxe Hybrid is Allswell’s mid-tier mattress. It sells for more than the base model and less than the luxury model. The MSRP for a queen size mattress is about $650, which is still highly affordable for a coil mattress, especially when you consider the fact that you can still apply a promo code. You can check AllswellHome.com for any deals on this mattress.

allswell mattress review the luxe hybrid
If we could only choose one, The Luxe is our favorite Allswell mattress

Construction of Allswell Luxe Hybrid — The Luxe Hybrid is 12″ thick with pocketed coils as the base and various foams in the comfort layers. This is the chief differentiator for this mattress—you will be paying a little more for additional cushion in those comfort layers. The bed won’t be “soft,” but it will have a good deal more “give” than the base model. The bed has pocketed coils, a transitional layer of foam, copper-infused gel memory foam, and a quilted cover with fluffy foam inside.

Comfort & Firmness Analysis — If you want our two cents, The Luxe mattress is the most comfortable of the three Allswell mattresses. We consider it a true medium on the firmness scale and should be just fine for all sleeping styles—though it’s perhaps best for side sleepers.

allswell mattress review firmness rating

Despite the fact that The Luxe has memory foam (just like the other two) it feels like a neutral foam mattress with coils. You get pressure relief and all the rest of it, but it won’t remind you of a throwback TempurPedic mattress. In other words, there’s no “stuck” feeling and rotating between your preferred sleeping positions is not difficult in the least.

Sleeping Positions — Like we said above, it’s in the middle of our firmness scale, which means it’s not terribly soft or firm, and, therefore, should work for all sleeping styles. If we had to choose just one, however, we’d say it’s better for side sleepers than anyone else. Even so, it’s a versatile mattress that doesn’t alienate many potential customers.

Allswell Luxe Hybrid Review: Verdict — Let’s just get right to it. At this price point, we think it’s darn near impossible to find a nicer, more comfortable, better constructed bed. We would expect this mattress to sell for closer to $1,000 like the Brooklyn Bedding Signature mattress. It’s also nice middle ground between the other two beds that Allswell offers. It’s softer than The Allswell, but thinner and more affordable than The Supreme.

Allswell Supreme Review

As its name somewhat implies, The Supreme is Allswell’s premium mattress offering. Below is our full review of the bed.

Affordable Price Tag For A Luxury Mattress — As you would expect, the Supreme is more expensive than the base Allswell Hybrid mattress, but really, its price tag isn’t all that crazy. The MSRP for the bed ranges from around $700 for a twin to around $1,250 for a king. Considering the high-quality construction of the mattress, we actually think The Supreme a tremendous value. If you compare it against other 14″ thick hybrid mattresses, you’ll likely find a price difference ranging anywhere from $200-800.

Plus, as we stated above, Allswell does run sales and promotions from time to time. We regularly see the company offer 10-15% off, which would bring the queen size Supreme bed below the $850 mark. You’ll be hard pressed to find a similar hybrid mattress for that price. Make sure to keep an eye on the green discount box on the right hand of the screen to see if you can secure that price right now.

Construction Of The Supreme Mattress — All three Allswell mattresses are considered hybrids, but The Supreme definitely takes things to the next level. The bed is made up of five separate layers and totals a whopping 14″ thick. For the very bottom of the bed, Allswell uses a half-inch layer of dense support foam. On top of that are 8″ individually wrapped coils, which serve as the primary support structure for the mattress.

allswell supreme mattress review hybrid construction
Not recommended, but we cut into the Allswell Supreme anyway

Next are three different layers of foam, first starting with 2″ of Energex foam, which essentially serves as a transition layer in the bed. Following the transition foam is a 2″ layer of graphite and copper gel infused memory foam. This layer provides deep pressure relief for sleepers. Finally, on top is a 1.5″ euro pillow top that adds an extra element of comfort for the mattress.

Feel & Firmness Analysis — The Supreme mattress has a memory foam feel with a little bounce provided by the coils. As you lay down on the bed, you can feel the memory foam layer mold and conform to your body’s shape. However, with that said, the pillow top on the bed does muffle the memory foam sensation to a certain degree. You really don’t get a ton of resistance when you go to switch between positions, which is normally indicative of pure play memory foam mattresses. We would still consider the bed to have a memory foam feel, but it’s just not quite as distinct as say the Nectar mattress, for example. All in all, The Supreme is an extremely comfortable mattress. If you like the feel of memory foam, there’s a very high likelihood you’ll dig this bed.

allswell supreme review side sleepers
Comfortable memory foam feel with a pillow top

In terms of firmness, we think The Supreme mattress rates out around a medium+ on the firmness scale. At the end of the day, the bed provides a nice balance between pressure relief (looking at you pillow top and memory foam) and support (say hello to the pocketed coils).

Of course, as we discussed above, it’s important to remember that firmness is a subjective topic. It largely depends on your weight and body type. For example, heavy individuals will likely feel The Supreme mattress lands closer to a medium-soft, while petite individuals will probably rate it closer to a medium-firm.

Suitable For All Sleeper & Body Types — Given the bed lands near the center of the fairway in terms for firmness and provides a healthy mix between comfort and support, we think all types of sleepers will enjoy The Supreme mattress. Side sleepers will like the plush and conforming characteristics of the memory foam and pillow top combination, while back and stomach sleepers will appreciate the durable and supportive construction of the bed. Also, as with the other two Allswell beds, people of all shapes and sizes will be just fine on The Supreme mattress. This includes heavier folks who weigh more than 250 pounds.

allswell supreme review back sleeper
Good option for all types of sleepers as well folks of all shapes and sizes

Other Considerations — When it comes to the other important factors, The Supreme rates out very similarly to that of the base Allswell Hybrid mattress. In our opinion, The Supreme mattress sleeps temperature neutral (i.e. your sleeping temperature will depend more on external factors) and performs well when it comes to motion isolation and edge support. We don’t foresee couples having any major issues with the bed.

Allswell Supreme Review: Verdict — All in all, our opinion of The Supreme mattress follows the same theme as the base Allswell bed. It’s an excellent value, plain and simple. If you’re looking for a premium, durable bed that’s also comfortable and accommodates a wide variety of sleepers and body types, it’s difficult to find a better bang for your buck.
