Let’s preview the main differences we’ll be going over between Nectar and TempurPedic:
Now that we’ve given you a quick briefing, let’s jump into the post.
If you clicked the link to guide you to this comparison, odds are you love the deep viscous feeling of memory foam. If you don’t, we suggest you press that back arrow at the top left corner of your browser so you can check out our other Mattress Reviews because Nectar and TempurPedic are two mattresses with a distinct memory foam feel.
Nectar is one of the top rated choices for a memory foam bed-in-a-box mattress, so it’s a pretty strong contender to the industry giant TempurPedic who is arguably one of the most well-known memory foam mattress brands in the world. They created the TempurPedic Adapt Series to compete with bed-in-a-box mattress brands who keep growing in popularity on the internet. We are big fans of both Nectar and TempurPedic, but they each have their strengths, so it all depends on what kind of mattress or mattress brand you’re drawn to.

The four layers that make up a Nectar mattress are comprised of memory foam and support foam. The bottom slab is where you can find the support foam to act as the foundation for your bed. The next layer is “Adaptive Hi Core Memory Foam,” which basically just means dense memory foam Nectar made themselves. It’s main objective is to provide pressure relief and act as a transition layer between the dense support foam base and memory foam above it.
The next two layers are made out of gel-memory foam, which is a slightly cooler material than traditional memory foam. So as you can tell, this mattress is packed with comfortable memory foam that your body will be able to gently sink into for maximum pressure relief and relaxation.
If you purchase a bed that’s constructed with three layers of memory foam, you can probably bet the mattress is going to give you a traditional memory foam feel. When you first get on the mattress, it will take about 4-6 seconds for the foam to start molding to your body. In other words, you don’t get that deep viscous feeling right away. Once you sink in, it’s incredibly comfortable and it feels like a dense cloud giving you a hug.
It lands between a medium and a medium-firm on our scale, so it’s slightly on the firm side to accommodate back and stomach sleepers. With that being said, we still think it’s soft enough for side sleepers. When you’re on your back or stomach you need a firmer mattress to make sure your hips don’t sink into the mattress.
When you’re on your side, you need a softer mattress that will contour to the shape of your body. We think Nectar lands somewhere in the middle ground between supportive and pressure relieving, so it’s a good option for all sleeper types.
We know price is often a huge factor in someone’s decision, especially when you’re talking about a $1,000 difference, at minimum. A queen size Nectar mattress retails for around $800 and usually the company will throw in two free pillows with each Nectar mattress as well.
If you want to purchase a queen size TempurPedic mattress, it goes for about $2,200 (starting price) and they don’t as frequently run specials. That said, you can check TempurPedic.com to see if they have a deal today.
So if you’re on a budget or can’t justify spending over $1,500 on a mattress, then we think Nectar would be a good choice for you. If money isn’t a concern and you want to invest in a top-notch premium mattress, go ahead and spring for TempurPedic.

The specific construction of a mattress in the TempurPedic Adapt Series will vary, depending on which model you go with. You can either get the more budget friendly TEMPUR-Adapt model, their most popular model TEMPUR-ProAdapt, or the more luxury TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt. They’re pretty similar as far as construction goes, other than a coil or foam foundation, and how dense the foam is inside the mattress.
The TEMPUR-Adapt and TEMPUR-ProAdapt model both come with a hybrid option. With that being said, the first layer of material in a Tempur-Pedic is either a dense slab of poly foam (neutral foam) or coils. Next, you’ll see a layer of transition foam that sits between the dense foam underneath it, and the soft memory foam on top of it. The slab after the transition layer will either be TEMPUR-ES memory foam, or TEMPUR-APR memory foam; again, depending on the model you choose to purchase. In a nutshell, the foam is basically a certain proprietary foam. It basically feels like dense memory foam you slowly sink into like glue — just warm, comforting, and cozy glue.
If you were to jump into a TempurPedic bed and lay there for a few seconds, the memory foam will soften as it retains your body heat. This is why memory foam makes you feel like you’re sinking into it, and we know there are a ton of people out there who are big fans. So if you are looking for a premium mattress with a true memory foam feel, we think you’ll enjoy a TempurPedic.
Depending on what model you choose, you can get a Soft, Medium/Medium Hybrid, or a Firm mattress. Naturally, different companies are going to have slightly varying firmness rating systems, so we would call their Soft model a medium, their Medium model a medium-firm, and we agree their Firm model is indeed firm. That means there won’t be any sleeper types (side, back, stomach, combo) who can’t find an accommodating mattress in the TempurPedic Adapt Series. The graphic below shows the firmness ratings for the TEMPUR ProAdapt mattress.
If you’re sharing a bed with a significant other, we think you’ll appreciate the split king and split California king options you get with a TempurPedic. They don’t want you to argue with your loved one, and they definitely don’t want you to compromise your sleep because you let your S.O. get the mattress they preferred. With a split mattress, you can make your side of the bed as firm as you need and your partner can make theirs as soft as they want. There aren’t a ton of companies out there who manufacture their mattresses this way, so it’s one of our favorite things about TempurPedic.
Whether you’re petite, medium-sized, or a heavy-set individual, you’ll want to purchase a bed that will suit your body type the best. If you’re petite or medium-sized, you won’t have too many issues finding a bed you’ll feel comfortable on since you don’t put that much pressure on your sleep surface. So unless you come across an incredibly firm mattress you won’t sink into, you’re pretty much in the clear with both Nectar and TempurPedic. If you weigh 250 lb or more, you may want to consider a hybrid mattress like one in the Adapt series because it’ll be more supportive and durable in the long run.
If you’re a heavier individual and want to take a look at a few other beds we think will be a good option, head over to our post on Best Mattresses For Heavy People.
There’s no doubt in your mind you want a memory foam mattress, you just don’t know if you should go with the more budget-friendly option or if you should pull the trigger and purchase a premium memory foam bed. Here are a few key questions to ask yourself to help narrow down your options.

No matter how much you want to scroll past this part after seeing this section’s header, we think it’s really important for you to know what kind of policies Nectar and TempurPedic offer. Don’t you want to know what happens if you want to return your mattress?
First things first, your Nectar or TempurPedic mattress will be delivered to you in a bag or a box. Usually, UPS is the carrier who delivers your mattress, but we’ve heard from a few different people they got theirs from FedEx or a third party carrier. Either way, your Nectar mattress will arrive on your front porch in a box the size of a 10 year old.
If you order a TempurPedic, you receive free white glove delivery, which means you’ll have two professionals deliver your mattress and set it up in your home for you. The best part is you can let them do all the heavy lifting you don’t want to do.
Like most bed-in-a-box mattresses, they offer a risk-free trial period so customers can test out their new mattress and make sure it’s a bed they can sleep on for the next 7+ years. Nectar’s policy is more generous than TempurPedic’s, and most online mattress companies for that matter.
With Nectar you get a 365-night trial period and TempurPedic will give you 90 nights. The average is around 100-120 nights so we really appreciate Nectar going above and beyond to make sure their customers are satisfied. If your new mattress doesn’t win you over during their trial period, Nectar gives you free returns, but you’ll have to pay a return fee with TempurPedic.
Nectar also has a different warranty policy than TempurPedic because they offer a “forever” warranty while TempurPedic will give you 10 years. We do suggest you go to the Nectar website or TempurPedic website and read the fine print to check out the details of your coverage.
