Brentwood Home vs WinkBed Mattress

A direct review of two hotel luxury mattresses: WinkBeds and Brentwood Home Oceano

If you’re in the market for a luxury hybrid mattress, there are about eight to 10 top-tier brands to choose from, at least if you shop online. Brentwood Home and WinkBed are definitely on that list and are both very popular mattresses. In this comparison, we discuss why you might get one bed over the other.

Brentwood Oceano vs WinkBed Synopsis

These are both premium hybrid/innerspring mattresses with two layers of coils, so what really is the difference between them? Well, for anyone that’s short on time and just likes to skim, here’s the bulk of the story in the Brentwood vs Wink debate.

  • Firmness Options — WinkBed offers their mattress in three different firmness levels, while the Oceano bed is only available in one. We generally regard more options as being better for consumers.
  • Maximum Comfort — If you absolutely made us choose, we’d say the Oceano mattress is the more comfortable mattress. It tends to immediately get people to say “Ohhhh yeah, this is very comfortable.” Interestingly enough, though, both beds made our list of the most comfortable mattresses, so this really is a subjective point.
  • Heavy People — While we think both mattresses are suitable for heavier individuals, WinkBed has a specific model called WinkBed Plus that’s designed exclusively for heavy/obese people. It’s a seriously durable mattress.
  • Strict Side Sleepers — For anyone that’s looking for extra pressure relief, the Brentwood Home Oceano will be one of the best beds you can buy online. WinkBed does offer a soft model specifically for side sleepers, but we have to give the edge to Brentwood for people that want pressure relief turned up to 100.
  • Price — The Brentwood Home Oceano is the more affordable mattress (barely).

Those are the major relative differences between these two mattresses. Of course, there are a lot of details that we’ve omitted for the sake of brevity, but for both of them we have published full individual mattress reviews, which you can consult if you want any more info. The links to those reviews are below.

Brentwood Home Oceano Mattress

  • Side sleepers that want maximum pressure relief
  • Individuals that truly care about getting an eco-friendly mattress
  • Combination sleepers that favor their side most
  • Anyone that’s in pursuit of a dangerously comfortable bed
  • People of all shapes and sizes (the Oceano mattress has two layers of coils)

Brentwood Home is designed to be an eco-friendly mattress. It’s made in California, has CertiPUR-US certified foams, uses plant-based fibers in its cover, has chemical-free flame barriers, incorporates New Zealand wool, and even has the GREENGUARD Gold certification, which means it meets extremely rigorous health standards. The entire branding of this mattress is about health and comfort.

Hard To Find A More Comfortable Mattress

If we were choosing on comfort alone, we’d have to go with the Oceano mattress. It has a soft, almost cloud-like feel, yet it’s still very supportive.

Extremely comfortable mattress

The Oceano mattress is about a medium-soft to medium on the firmness spectrum. When you lay on it, you almost feel like you’re cuddling a giant pillow. And even though it uses memory foam, you don’t get any of that stuck-in-the-mud feeling and, therefore, switching sleeping positions is basically effortless on this mattress.

Side Sleepers & Pressure Relief

Despite the fact that WinkBed does make a soft model, if pressure relief is your number one concern, it’s hard to do better than Brentwood Oceano.

Oceano is one of those mattresses that you nestle into (not sink into like memory foam). It cradles your body, but doesn’t trap you, and does a great job of relieving pressure, particularly under your hips and shoulders.

Typically More Affordable

If you were to see WinkBed or the Oceano mattress at a traditional mattress store, you’d expect it to cost upwards of $2,000 for a queen size. Truthfully, we’ve tried out the Simmons Beautyrest Black mattress, which is widely considered the premium mattress, and these two beds look and feel just as nice.

In terms of MSRP, the Oceano is about $1,500 and WinkBed is about $1,600, both for a queen size mattress. Having said that, both brands participate in the highly competitive online bedding industry and therefore both of them are keen on offering mattress coupons/deals during major holidays.

During Black Friday, Cyber Monday, July 4th, and so on, you should expect to see both brands give discounts of about $100-$200 (maybe more) per mattress. You can visit Brentwood’s website and WinkBed’s website for their current sales.

Why Get Oceano Over WinkBed?

You get the Oceano mattress if you want an eco-conscious bed that’s soft, yet supportive. It’s not a cheap mattress, so you will have to be prepared to pay over $1,200 for a queen size bed, but if comfort is your primary concern, it’s a dang good mattress.

WinkBed Mattress

  • All types of sleepers (back, stomach, side, combo)
  • People that want to choose the firmness level of their mattress
  • Small, medium, and heavy body types (WinkBed Plus is a bed designed just for heavy people)
  • Those who appreciate a lifetime warranty and lifetime comfort guarantee
  • People that want an extra-durable mattress that would look right at home at a luxury hotel

WinkBed is a solid mattress, both in terms of its construction and value proposition. This bed is built to last, has a heck of a lot to offer, and looks great. This is my third time mentioning this, but just in case you’re skimming, here’s the entire story with this mattress: WinkBed belongs in a luxury hotel. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the mattress that Lord Rutledge insists on sleeping on (just a little Dunston Checks In humor for you). Seriously though, on paper, this mattress has it all.

Multiple Firmness Levels

Instead of just offering one firmness level and hoping it will work for everyone, WinkBed offers their mattress in three different firmness levels (Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm).

winkbed mattress review firmness and feel

The soft model is intended for side and combination sleepers. The Luxury Firm model is their most popular and is suitable for all sleeping positions. And the Firm model is designed just for back and stomach sleepers.

Luxury firm model is good for all sleeping positions.

The overall feel of the mattress is neutral and soft to the touch. It has a giant European pillow top that incorporates a special type of foam that’s airy and soft. Even so, the overall support level is turned way up. This bed is durable and resilient, but very pleasant to sleep on.

If you were to cut this bed open (not advised), similar to the Oceano mattress, you’d see both pocketed coils and microcoils, alongside a few layers of foam and a Tencel fiber cover (which is supposedly softer than silk). This mattress is clearly very well made is doesn’t cut corners in terms of materials. Here’s a video from WinkBed about their manufacturing processes.

Like Brentwood Home, WinkBed has a strong commitment to making a healthy, safe mattress. WinkBed is made in Wisconsin, has the CertiPUR-US certification, uses recycled steel for the coils, and even has the OEKO-TEX Standard 100, Class 1 certification for its cover. So, while Brentwood’s entire brand is built around eco-conscious, health-friendly materials, WinkBed is no slouch in this department either.

Heavy People

Not only does WinkBed offer three different firmness levels, but they also make a bed just for heavy people. It’s called WinkBed Plus, and it’s a beast. We even included it on our list of the best mattresses for heavy/obese people. It also is the firmest mattress they make, but since softness/firmness is relative based on your weight, it should end up being the perfect firmness level for heavier folks. WinkBed Plus combines “Impression-Proof Foam” with two layers of coils and latex foam.

winkbed mattress reviews stomach sleepers
WinkBed Plus can take up to 2x ~500 lb people

Ultimately, we do think the Oceano mattress and all three models of the Wink mattress will be supportive enough for heavier people, but if you’re 300 lb or more, we think that Plus model is the way to go. According to WinkBed, in their tests, which simulated 20 years of use by a 350 lb person, the WinkBed Plus experienced virtually no loss in loft or firmness. The exact numbers were 99.2% and 98% for loft and firmness retention, respectively. You can read more about the Plus model on WinkBed’s website.

Why Get WinkBed Over Brentwood Home?

There’s a laundry list of reasons why we like WinkBed, but as its relates to Brentwood Home, there are really three key advantages for this mattress.

First, if you’re a back or stomach sleeper or you just want to choose your firmness level, you should opt for WinkBed. Next, if you’re heavy (well over 250 lb) you should seriously consider the WinkBed Plus.

Company Policies — Brentwood Home & WinkBed

Whenever you buy a mattress online, it comes with a few standard policies regarding shipping, returns, etc.. Brentwood Home and WinkBed both offer completely free shipping with their mattresses, just like pretty much every other mattress brand, such as Casper, Purple, and so on.

The Oceano mattress is delivered by FedEx and the mattress itself is compressed, rolled up, and hoisted into a box. The unboxing process takes a few minutes, but lo and behold, inside this four-foot box is an entire mattress.

However, if you order a king or Cal king Oceano mattress, it does come with free white glove delivery and in-home setup. What this means is that the delivery personnel will bring the mattress into your house, remove the packaging, and set up your new bed in whichever room you choose, all for free. White glove delivery is basically one step beyond normal delivery, although it does take longer in terms of overall shipping times.

WinkBed, while still technically a bed-in-a-box, is not shipped via FedEx or UPS and is not compressed inside a box. Instead, WinkBed is delivered by a local delivery firm in a properly fitting, full size box. For an additional fee, you can request white glove delivery, in-home setup, and old mattress removal.

Once the mattress has been delivered, both brands give you 120-night trial periods. They know that you haven’t felt the mattress, tried the mattress, or even seen the mattress in-person yet so you need some time to make up your mind. What’s nice is that both of them offer completely free returns, as well. So, in the event that you don’t want the bed for any reason (or no reason) you can get 100% of your money back as long as you’re within the first 120 nights. Just so you know, though, free returns is standard for just about every mattress you’ll be shopping for online. The 120-night trial period, however, is about 20 days longer than you’ll get with most other brands.

I mention returns because it’s good for you to know what your options are, but the ultimate goal here is to get the right mattress that you immediately love. And, if that happens to be the Oceano mattress, it comes with a 25-year warranty (industry standard is 10 years) and the WinkBed mattress comes with a lifetime warranty. To be honest, if we were comparing WinkBed to Leesa or the Cocoon mattress, we’d make a huge deal of the lifetime warranty, but since Brentwood backs the Oceano with a 25-year warranty, it’s really hard to make a fuss either way. The average person keeps their bed for between seven and 12 years, so there really isn’t much difference between a 25-year warranty and a lifetime warranty—they’re both great.
