Mattress toppers are great for changing the firmness and feel of a mattress. This is especially great for guest bedrooms, sofa beds, RVs, car camping, or college dorm beds. It’s a quick fix to make things more comfortable and accommodating without having to buy an entirely new mattress.
Toppers are also great for extending the lifetime of your mattress. This is because they protect your mattress from spills and accidents, and there are even some mattress toppers (mostly mattress pads, though) out there that you can throw into the washing machine. Your topper will get worn out before your mattress, too, prolonging the life of your mattress.
A mattress topper can also add some thickness to your mattress. This is great if you feel that your mattress is too thin, or maybe it doesn’t look good in your bed frame. It can also change the feel of your mattress. If you have a neutral foam bed like Casper, but you’ve decided you want memory foam, a topper is a great option.
Last thing we want to mention is that you don’t need a Lucid mattress to use with the Lucid Lavender Mattress Topper or the Lucid Gel Memory Foam Topper. It does have a lighter feel to it than the Lucid memory foam mattresses though, so if you feel like your mattress is a little too dense, this is a great option to soften it up a bit.
Lucid is one of the most popular bedding companies on Amazon. While the lavender option is pretty unique, their most popular one is a 2-3” cooling gel memory foam topper. Here’s a look at the topper.
The Lucid Lavender mattress topper is available through Lucid’s website, but most people seem to get it from Amazon, where it has 4.5 stars and over 2,900 reviews. If you buy through Amazon, the product has Amazon Prime, which means free two-day shipping in many cases. The topper also comes with a 3-year warranty, which you can learn more about on their website.
For the remainder of this review, we will be discussing the lavender topper, but you can learn more about the gel memory foam topper here.
The Lucid Zoned Lavender mattress topper has exactly what its name states: zoned support and smells like lavender! In fact, upon unboxing it, it made our whole bedroom smell strongly of lavender and we had to open a window to air it out. It has more of a light smell now, which we quite like.
UPDATE: Lucid recently changed the Lavender Topper slightly. You can see the most updated model on Amazon.
One thing that you’ll notice is that the topper does not come with a cover—it’s just a slab of foam. It’s not a big deal since the topper is going under your sheets, but it would have been nice to have a thin cover.
Lucid infused lavender in their memory foam for “calming and comfort.” Lavender is most popularly used for insomnia, as scientific research has proved that it has sleep-inducing effects by promoting melatonin production, and actively works to help calm the mind and soothe the body. Perfect for your nighttime sleep routine, if you ask us.
Now let’s talk about their zoned support. The bottom of this topper is flat, but the top has five various detailed designs that are supposed to reduce pressure at different points of the body, which is supposed to enhance comfort and prevent tossing and turning. We like the texture, but aren’t convinced that the zoned support design really does much with the topper.
Keep in mind that if you have a cooling mattress or hybrid mattress with good airflow, this topper can stifle that. Memory foam does have a tendency to hold heat, so this could make your bed sleep on the warmer side.
This topper cannot be thrown into the washing machine, so to keep it clean, we recommend just spot treating with a mild detergent and water.
This mattress topper is 2” thick and has a light and moderately responsive memory foam feel, somewhat similar to the Puffy mattress. Because it is only 2” and rather light, you won’t get any of that stuck-in-the-mud feeling that is sometimes typical with dense memory foam. We think this will be fine for active sleepers who tend to toss and turn while switching sleeping positions during the night.
This topper is probably going to make your mattress feel softer, but the firmness level is dependent on the firmness of the mattress underneath. If your mattress is very firm like Big Fig, this topper will make it more medium-firm. If you already have a mattress that’s on the softer side like the Freya mattress, then this topper will make your bed feel even softer on the firmness scale.
Lucid does a great job of making their products affordable. Below is a pricing breakdown for the 2″ lavender topper in each mattress size. Be sure to check out the box hovering next to this text or our Mattress Deals page to see if we have any discounts for you.
|Twin / Twin XL||$40|
|Full / Full XL||$48|
|King / Cal King||$70|
The 2″ lavender option is more affordable than the 3″ gel memory foam version because it’s thinner. Typically, you can find the Lucid lavender topper (queen size) for around $60 on Amazon. The table above just shows MSRP based on Lucid’s website. Amazon is probably the way to go with this topper.
The Lucid Lavender Mattress Topper has some really cool and unique features that we like. We think if you’re looking for an affordable memory foam topper that doesn’t feel like quicksand and you really like the smell of lavender, this is a nice mattress topper for you. It might not be as popular as the 3″ gel memory foam one, but most of the time it costs less also.
How did we get this mattress topper?
|It was sent to us by Malouf Sleep to try out. But, as always, everything stated in this review is our own thoughts.|
What if I don’t like the zoned support?
|Well you can either return it, or you could just turn in over so the zoned support is facing the mattress, and the flat side is facing up.|
