This review is based around Gravity’s redesigned Cooling Blanket, the next generation to the brand’s original Cooling Blanket. But we also want to briefly mention their flagship Gravity Blanket. There’s only a few major differences between the two, and the main one is the fabric of the duvet covers.
The New Cooling Blanket blanket is made with faux tencel, a smoother and more breathable material than the plush microfiber they use for their flagship model. The New Cooling Blanket is also more expensive than their flagship blanket by about $10, and it’s available in three different colors instead of two.

If you don’t know what a weighted blanket is or why somebody would use one, they’ve become increasingly popular over the years for people who struggle to fall asleep at night. Whether you have PTSD, insomnia, anxiety, or you just suffer from racing thoughts before bed, weighted blankets have been proven to help calm the nerves and provide a comforting environment for you to fall asleep with more ease.
Some people may be skeptical, but the benefits of weighted blankets have been backed by scientific research. When you lay a weighted blanket over your body, it produces a deep touch pressure that stimulates the release of serotonin, which is basically the “happy chemical” your body produces naturally. It essentially produces the same feeling you get when someone you love gives you a soft embrace after you’ve had a rough day.
Before we get into the details behind the New Cooling Blanket, we want to go over their company policies so you know exactly what to expect if you decide to purchase one. They offer free shipping to the United States, but don’t currently ship outside of North America. Shipping for our neighbors up north in Canada starts at $80, but it covers duty free and taxes.
Gravity has a 30-day return period, which means you have about a month to determine if you like it or not. If you find it’s not for you, head over to their website and follow the steps to begin the return process.
There are a few different kinds of weighted blankets on the market. Some are made in accordance with mattress sizes, some come in one standard size similar to a throw blanket, like the one we’re talking about today. The dimensions of the New Cooling Blanket are 72” x 48,” which is a pretty good size for a couch or lounge-around blanket.
A weighted blanket should be around 10% of a person’s body weight, and Gravity gives you the option to choose between 15 lbs, 20 lbs, or 25 lbs. You also have the choice between three colors; white, grey, and navy. The particular one we received is 15 lbs and navy blue, and will be the one we refer to throughout this review.
The New Cooling blanket is made with two pieces; a duvet cover and a weighted blanket, encased safely behind ties and elastic button connectors. The duvet cover is made from faux tencel, like we said earlier, and the filling is made using fine-grade glass beads.
To ensure the beads don’t bunch up on one side of the blanket, they’re evenly distributed across a grid-like pattern. We’d say the pattern is similar to the graph paper you used to use in elementary and middle school.
We think Gravity’s New Cooling Blanket feels cooler than other weighted blankets we’ve tried, but it’s not actively trying to cool you down as you sleep. So we would say it sleeps pretty temperature neutral, and it’s a good weighted blanket to have for the warmer months when it gets too hot to cuddle up with fluffy materials. If you’re a hot sleeper, make sure to check out our list of the Best Cooling Mattresses.
If we were to describe the feel of it, we’d probably say it’s like a softer quilted blanket. It’s smooth like a quilt, but definitely more cozy and soft-to-the-touch.
The blanket we received was 15 lbs, as we previously said, and it’s the lightest weighted blanket Gravity has to offer. So it was pretty easy to manage and carry around, but still felt snug when we laid down with it. You feel a really gentle pressure up against you as you sleep, and it almost feels like you’re being cuddled.
It was also good at keeping an even weight distribution throughout the night, so we didn’t have to wake up periodically and struggle to keep adjusting it.
We aren’t very confident that two people could comfortably share this blanket, at least not at night when you’re sleeping. Unless you and your significant other are huge cuddlers, then it might be able to work. But we think it’s an ideal blanket for individuals who want to go from cozying up with the blanket on the couch, to bringing it to bed.
It isn’t uncommon to see a weighted blanket cost as much as a bedroom comforter set, and that’s about how much Gravity’s New Cooling Blanket is. It retails for $260 no matter what weight or color you choose, but at the time of this post, they’re running a promotion (mid-July 2019) for about $50 off. So it does help make the blanket a little more affordable.
In comparison to the other weighted blankets we’ve tested out, this one is the most expensive. It could be contributed to the fact it’s meant to sleep cooler than other weighted blankets on the market. Whatever the reason though, we probably wouldn’t recommend this blanket to folks on a tight budget.
If you’re going to pay good money for a nice weighted blanket, you probably want it to last as long as possible. How do you do that, especially if you live in a home with little messy munchkins? Luckily, the duvet cover on the New Cooling Blanket is machine washable, so it can withstand spills and stains without being ruined. It’s also dry clean friendly, which is a nice plus because heat can sometimes damage the fabric on certain weighted blankets.
Machine wash the cover in cold water using non-chlorine bleach. Tumble dry on low, and cool iron if need be. According to the instructions, you’ll have to hand wash the blanket that’s inside the duvet cover. You can either spot clean with a mild detergent, or follow the instructions on our How To Wash A Weighted Blanket post.
So what do we think about the New Cooling Blanket, and who do we think it’s good for? Well, despite its name, we wouldn’t necessarily say it’s “cooling,” but it certainly doesn’t sleep as hot as most weighted blankets we’ve seen. We’d say this blanket just prevents you from overheating too much. We also appreciate the machine washable duvet cover and its easy-to-manage size, which would be ideal for those looking to get their child a weighted blanket.
So even though it doesn’t necessarily cool you down, it definitely calms you down, which is what it’s main purpose is. So if you’re looking for a weighted blanket that won’t make you hot at night and you have the money to spend, we would recommend you give Gravity’s New Cooling Blanket a try.
